Good Trip Bad Trip
Good Trip Bad Trip is a physical exploration of classic psychedelic prints. The series of shaped and printed textiles accentuates the movement of the prints by moving them from 2D to 4D. Smocked or folded, the fabric is manipulated to show a relationship between the printed designs and creases in the fabric resulting in a malleable and psychedelic textile.
The dimensional pieces are created in tandem with laser cut pleating molds based off of paper folding studies. Stiff craft paper is lightly etched by the laser cutter to score folding lines. The prints are designed and engineered to correspond with the etched layout. Ones the molds are etched and the fabric is printed, the textile is strategically tacked onto the mold and pressed with heat. After pressing, the piece is removed from the mold and holds the structured shape on its own.
